There’s a house near my house in ABQ that puts up that skeleton with two skeleton dogs. After Halloween they put a Santa outfit on it and Santa hats on the dogs úntil after Christmas.
Two for one decoration.
@kittykat9180 that’s what I want to do but year round. Make different things to put on it for each holiday. Pilgrim hat for Thanksgiving. A diaper and big year glasses for new year, etc.
@Star2236 I’m beginning to think that this summer will NEVER be over. It just takes a little break occasionally, like during yesterday’s and today’s rain. (Which I helped instigate by running my sprinklers for 2.5 hours because I got busy and just forgot about them while on the computer. Then went outside and found we’d had about an inch of local rain during that time.)
But nature’s not done with summer. Tomorrow’s high is supposed to be 90 while in the middle of 25% chance of rain.
I would decorate but we never get any kids coming around. Some people say the pit bull has something to do with it. I think they’re nuts. Kids love dogs.

I decorated our front porch when I was in my mid-teens (early 70s) with a bunch of creepy/spooky stuff, ran a speaker out from my bedroom window and looped a bunch of Black Sabbath/Alice Cooper tunes. I ended up with a ton of candy left over… Gee was I ever bummed…

I love seeing peoples yards and houses decorated for Halloween, but I don’t bother doing it myself anymore. We live in a rural area, and the few neighbors we have aren’t the types that would appreciate a spooky scene. Doesn’t really matter to me, because our interior is decorated like it’s Halloween all the time.
@Kyeh Nah, they probably were just being nice to someone who also seemed nice. You probably wouldn’t even be scary if you were wearing a black jacket that said IRS on the back of it.
I’m not likely to be up your way any time soon, but if you’re ever around here, I’ll also offer you some candy, provided you’re not picky about Meh-sold Kind bars pushing their Best-By dates.

That white van looks like it’s trying too hard to get extra riders.
Those time trials look like fun, but they’d probably tell me my old pickup is beneath their standards for looks and I doubt the suspension would survive, anyway.
@Kyeh@phendrick If you have a white van that you are willing to throw away doing something crazy like that you might as well go with the trope. I was impressed it was a woman who got out. Good stuff. I was probably most surprised by how well the Subarus did.
Tricky, but a treat if done right. But I only do it for myself and I’m hard to please. I’ve gotten where it’s mostly just programmable LED lights and a prop or two for some atmosphere.
All my neighbors are college kids and they seem to have their own world to live in. Hadn’t had door ringers in years, so have given up on having candy handy.
@werehatrack We live out in the country - we’ve had a total of one trick-or-treater in 28 years. And that was a friend of our daughter whose parent stopped on their way to neighborhoods in town.
No decorations. But enjoy driving around to see others efforts. And no we do no do candy as there are very few kids around. We make bags for our grands and the few in the neighborhood. Best part is Fireworks at the city park.

We decorate for Autumn starting Labor Day weekend. Fall leaf garland and fall wreath with orange slow twinkle lights outside, garland and lights and autumn decor inside. The week or two before Halloween we add jack-o-lanterns and halloween stuff ‘on top’ of Autumn, then a few days before we set up the outside stuff. Usually a projector, a ‘misting cauldron’, a strobe light that has a demo mode that makes storm sounds with coordinated ‘lightning’ flashes, and spooky haunted house bulbs in the light fixtures. Halloween is only out until the day or weekend after; Autumn decor remains until its time for Christmas, after Thanksgiving.
We rarely get more than a few trick or treaters. We do it for us and for the few that show up.
This year Amazon got slow twinkle lights in orange and purple; they were on sale last prime day. We used similar ones for Christmas last year and they look so much better. These are the type where each bulb does a slow fade on fade off randomly and individually. True twinkles, not half on half off or stupid chasing. They’ll make a nice change both outside and inside.
I need to get me one of those giant home depot skeletons.

I put out a pumpkin but my street and neighborhood do more for Halloween than Christmas. Especially ironic considering my house is on San Nicholas.

In over 35 years at this house I’ve never had a single trick or treater.
Plus now I tend to be traveling that time of year.
I prefer fall/autumn/harvest decorations this time of year.
